Highlands Ranch dentists Dr. James DeLapp and Dr. H. Candace DeLapp get call about broken teeth all the time. I many cases the tooth can be fixed with a crown and on occasion just a filling. In most (not all) the time the broken tooth is one in which we have recommended a crown be placed. Since the tooth did not bother the patient they decided to delay treatment on the tooth. The question we do not know until we see the patient is… how bad is the break or fracture?
Vertical fracture= loss of the tooth
Our Highlands Ranch dentists have found if the tooth fractures vertically ‘most” of the time the tooth is extracted. Horizontal fracture while not looking so good “may (or may not) have a better prognosis. Once the tooth has fractures it may limit your options to keep the tooth. If you loose the tooth a partial denture, dental bridge or dental implant may be an option to restore the space vacated.
